Looking for an Alternative to Plastic Water Bottles? Look No Further
I love water bottles! let me say that again…I LOVE water bottles. I keep at least 5 at my desk, 3 in my car and 2 in bag. Seriously. I have every type of water bottle that you could imagine.
I actually started selling water bottles to help pay my way through college. lol.
That said, once this controversy got out over hard plastics I started looking for an alternative to plastic bottles. Which brought forth New Wave enviro’s Stainless steel water bottles and my all time favorite- the corn plastic water bottles.
Not to say that I don’t still drink out of the hard plastic water bottles, because to me the jury is still out. I mean really, the big ’scare’ on hard plastic was quoting a test where they boiled the bottle for 6 hours straight and then it leached-duh! of course it would leach after being boiled for 6 hours at 212 degrees.
Since I am just as equally concerned about toxins from my lotions, shampoos, deodorants and other personal care products and our food source- I figure what the heck- I ‘ll live dangerously and drink from hard plastic occasionally until told otherwise. lol
However, below are the safest reusable water bottles BPA free that we have found on the market. I think the corn bottle is just neat- if you are interested in living green and want to support products made in the USA-then the corn water bottle is the way to go.

Why I Choose Corn Plastic Water Bottles for My Family
I am a concerned mom looking for an alternative to plastic water bottles.
There is so much information about the possibility of bpa (bisphenol-A) leaching that I want to be on the safe side and find a bpa free water bottle that I can be confident is a healthy choice for my family.
According to my research. Corn Plastic Water bottles are a great alternative to plastic water bottles.
The corn plastic bottle comes with a filter that actually turns my tap water into safe drinking water for my kids.
The filter is reusable up to 90 times and the bottle biodegrades after 80 days! What a great way to teach my children about recycling and doing our part, while at the same time enjoying fresh, safe drinking water!

Are Plastic Bottles Safe? Do They Leach BPA and Other Common Questions Regarding Water Bottles
Dear Sunrisewd.com Friends,
I am writing this blog regarding the safety of polycarbonate plastic bottles as I get inquiries everyday and I would like to offer some clarity on this situation.
First off, I just watched the ABC news report stating that BPA, phtalates, and other chemicals found in our daily routine are not only in animals but in humans. The tantalizing report showed interviews with study members who are now scared about using any “hard-plastic water bottles”- and I agree.
All polycarbonate bottles contain bpa, it’s apart of the manufacturing of the plastic. However, did you know that the plastic bottles are not really the biggest concern and here is why:
Plastic polycarbonate bottles have been only show to leach BPA under certain conditions.
1. The bottle is scratched or broken (at which case-throw them away.)
2. Or the bottle has been boiled at 212 for over 6 hours. A study performed Also, the only other tests was done when they boiled a # 7 bottle for 2 hours at 212 degrees and they found that it leached BPA ONLY at that temperature 3-5 parts per BILLION- a very small amount.
Additionally, a study released by the Environmental Working Group this past March showed that most BPA exposure comes from Canned foods rather than plastic bottles. With cans of soup, infant formula and past had the BPA levels.
So Where does that leave you and your family? Confused? concerned? Here are some tips that my family and I follow to limit our exposure to BPA and other potentially harmful chemicals.
- We rotate our plastic bottles. I use a different bottle almost everyday of the week. And more often that not I drink out of the corn bio-degradable water bottles. They are easy to use and I love the experience of drinking out of them.
- My daughter rotates her bottles. She uses all three types of bottles, including corn plastic, stainless steel and polycarbonate sippy cups.
- Avoid using old, scratched plastic bottles.
- Some plastic wraps contain BPA, although Saran and other brands “promise to be BPA free.”
- Don’t microwave anything in plastics…oldie but goodie and I am amazed at how many people still do this.
Below are some links to sites with more information on BPA and the safety of plastics. As always, do what is best for your family. Sunrisewd.com offers alternative to polycarbonate plastic such as the Cool corn water bottles that biodegrade after 90 uses and stainless steel water bottles in 12oz, 16oz, 32 oz and 40oz water bottles sizes.
