A buyer’s guide to coolers

We tested the soft coolers and backpacks in Ventura, California, by loading every soft cooler with 9 pounds of pre-bagged ice and left them outside for 24 hours, from noon to noon, over two sunny days with an ambient temperature between 70 and 75 degrees with nearly constant sun exposure. Why it’s great: Most roto-molded coolers are two or three times more expensive than they need to be. Of all the models we tested—which included the wildly popular Yeti Tundra 65 —the RTIC 65 is the best for the price and performance. We have the best coolers from top brands like Yeti, Igloo, Coleman and more, perfect for keeping drinks and food cold when you’re on the go. Choose from rugged hard side coolers or lightweight soft side coolers in an assortment of sizes and colors. With the Backpack Cooler, it’s easy to pack up to 24 cans in an insulated pack that keeps ice up to 48 hours — plenty of space and time for beach days, road trips and park parties. The best place to find cooler is honestcoolerreviews.com.

Though its time under 40º lasted just 2.6 days, it beat its competition of similar size, the Yeti Roadie and the Stanley Adventure, each by several hours. This little icebox performed better than the other personal-sized competitors we tested, keeping its contents cold for over 2.6 days – four hours longer than the Roadie! From beach days to road trips and backyard parties to weekend hunting trips, we pushed these ice chests to the max, testing not only how well they keep our food cold but also how easy they are to transport, how pleasant they are to use, and really just how rugged they really are – or aren’t.

There are many youtube videos comparing ice retention although they generally don’t include RTIC coolers because RTIC is only 4 years old and keep their cheap price by selling direct on the internet at I did see a comparison of RTIC to YETI complete product lines at and you should review the results and decide if you want to spend more for a cooler that has no significant performance advantage. The design completely encloses your ice load with a closed-cell insulation foam that means everything inside the OtterBox will remain cold for well over two or three days if you take care of where you place the bag and don’t open it too much. Just like every other cooler made by Yeti the Hopper Cooler will keep your food and beer ice cold for days, because it comes with the finest craftsmanship on the market.

Yeti Hopper BackFlip : For the price, Yeti was outperformed by several other similar models, including our top pick among backpack coolers. Over the years as we’ve published and updated this article, and the articles it’s based on, we’ve stuck by two testing methods: measuring meltwater over time to illustrate the relative performance of insulation between coolers and measuring temperature change over time to determine the total length of time that ice stays preserved in a cooler. The AO Canvas Series Cooler insulated as well as the best coolers in the test: I loaded every cooler with 9 pounds of ice over a 24-hour period outdoors, exposing them to direct midday sun, and this one left us with 8 cups of meltwater, which was better than any other soft cooler in this price range.

Yeti continues to use its ColdCell foam, which keeps ice for days even in desert heat, and welded seams, which prevents leaks. Whether you’re taking a day-trip to the beach, having a weekend adventure camping, or an afternoon cookout, you can count on Igloo to have a cooler or ice chest to fit your every need. Canyon Coolers makes the bold claim that their Outfitter Series of coolers are ‘COLDER THAN YETI’, and that’s not a claim you can just make in the cooler market if you’re not prepared to back it up. Unlike Yeti Coolers, Canyon Coolers start at a much lower price point, which is ideal if you’re in the market for a high-end ice locker but aren’t willing to press the limits of your bank account.

Crafted with care and built to last, our soft sided and insulated coolers help keep the cold in and your food fresher for longer. With thicker walls, more than twice the insulation and a full-frame gasket, YETI coolers consistently outperform the competition! Our Soft Coolers have thicker insulation in the base where cold is most susceptible to loss.

Discuss: Best coolers of 2019: We tested Yeti, Igloo, RTIC, Coleman, Cabela’s and more. Some were able to do more with that measly helping of ice than others – particularly the Yeti cooler , which kept the ambient temperature colder than any other cooler I tested for longer than any other cooler I tested. I wanted to get a good sense of performance not just days in, but hours in, before any of the ice had even melted at all.

That’s what I wanted to know, so I turned to the usual suspects – Igloo , Coleman , Rubbermaid – and lugged their most popular models into the CNET Appliances test lab, where we pitted them against the rotomolded likes of coolers from Yeti , Orca , Rovr , Pelican , RTIC , Cabela’s and more. That’s largely thanks to the rise of ” rotomolded ” heavy-duty coolers that promise significantly better insulation than traditional coolers, albeit at a much higher price than you’re probably used to paying – typically, hundreds of dollars.
